'Upheaval of Sheikh Said is a fight for Tawhid'
Historians remark over the 86th anniversary of execution of Sheikh Said and his friends that Sheikh Said’s upheaval was a fight for Tawhid- oneness of God.
Research writer Sidar Ergul has made explanations about the 86th anniversary of execution of Sheikh Said and his 47 friends over the verdict of Independence Tribunals said that, “Sheikh Said’s rebellion is not a Kurdish riot nor a nationalistic riot but an uprising for Tawhid.”
Honorable Sheikh Said was one of the most significant people of Kurdistan. He was a great scholar and a leader who had a sphere of influence from Turkey to Iraq, Iran, Syria and even to Saudi Arabia. He was a mudarris (Professor) scholar and a canonist for Islam like his father lecturing in the madrassahs and a trader as well.
Citing that he was an intellectual master over Greek and Arab philosophy, Ergul said that, “He was well-versed in Arab, Persian, Turkish and Kurdish literature and also one of the real scholars knew well of theology of Greek, Arab philosophy and logic of his time.”
"Attacks against Islamic values prompted after the declaration of the republic"
Underlining the abolishing the Caliphate which was one of the most important institution among the Muslims, shocked especially Kurdish people that caused the first crack, Ergul remarked that, “Declaration of the Republic somehow prompted attacks against Islamic values. Besides, Religious- Sharia- Courts which were essential for Islamic Law were revoked. Madrassahs were shut down which were the main stream of education for Kurdish people. Closure of Madrassahs weakened the Muslim Kurdish people socially and culturally.”
“Kemalist system centralized the Turkish ethnicity while excluding Kurdish identity”
Adding, “After the foundation of the Republic, many publications such as magazines and newspapers were despising and mocking the people’s values,” Ergul indicated that,” As being an enlightened person Sheikh Said saw these shameless publications on the magazines and newspapers and he was aware of establishing of a secular education system after the law on unity of education bill had been passed. Naturally, people living in Kurdistan weren’t expected to acknowledge these changes in state and social life. Kemalist system centralized the Turkish ethnicity while excluding Kurdish identity. These reasons leaded Him up to an upheaval.”
“Thousands of Muslims sentenced to death by courts”
Saying that, “A crushing of a wedding ceremony by soldiers in a village of Piran town evolved a big riot,” Ergul quoted that: “With the start of the insurrection, the government changed. Law on the maintenance of order passed from the parliament immediately although yet its name was maintenance thousands of people went to the scaffold. In additions to that so called courts of tribunal were founded indeed they were just hangman. They were oppressive courts of which the judges were appointed by Mustafa Kemal. By this way thousands of Muslims relevant or irrelevant to the rebellion got the death penalty.” Ergul adds that, “At those time Turkey was as silent as a grave; a lot of newspapers, magazines were shut down, numerous lawyers and writers were imprisoned, any person dissented to system was silenced.”
"Sheik Said upheaval is a fight for Tawhid not inspired by nationalism"
Stating that,” Sheik Said and his friends were taken to Diyarbakır on the days of Oppression, cruelty and massacres.” Ergul said that, “Sheikh Said appeared in court. We can understand his aim purposes when we read his hearing. From his hearing we yield the fact that uprising against a cruel system favors attempts to the detriment of Islam and people was a religious duty that makes us to see his upheaval was a fight for Tawhid and was not inspired by nationalistic senses.”
“He said his fight for cause of Allah and His religious”
Saying, “Sheik Said who didn’t bow his head before cruelty himself confessed that his uprising was for Allah and for His religious revealed for human.” Ersaid for his last words that, “Sheik Said walked to the gallows which was built in Dagkapi Square in Diyarbakır proudly and in honor without showing even a little sign of fear on his face just saying Allah-akbar. Before he was hung he had said over that, ‘My fight is for Allah and for His religious.’
As it is known, over the verdict of the court of tribunal Sheikh Said and 47 of his friends were executed. His corpse was buried to an unknown place.” (ILKHA)
