Do not close the dialogue door: Barzani
Masoud Barzani made a statement for the first time after the referendum on independence in the Kurdish region of Iraq and stated that they have not been a threat to anyone in the last 25 years and proved it.
Masoud Barzani said in a statement after a referendum held in Iraqi Kurdistan Region that he thanked his citizens for saying "yes" in the referendum and said that they have not been a threat to anyone in the last 25 years. Barzani said they are ready for dialogue and negotiations with the Iraqi government, neighboring countries and the international community.
“Do not close the dialogue door”
Indicating that they have entered into a new process, Barzani made a call for the dialogue doors to not be closed: “From now on, we want to enter into serious and important negotiations with the government of Baghdad. We have a very long experience with you. We have gotten ups and downs. Let's start serious negotiations friendly instead of the threats. The referendum is not the imposition of factions and the drawing of borders. Our call to Prime Minister Abadi and everyone who believes in dialog; do not close the dialog door.”
Stating that they have proved that they have not been a threat to Turkiye and Iran but a factor of stability over the last 25 years, Barzani expressed hope that friendly relations between the parties will continue.
Calling to the Iraqi government, Barzani said: “Because of the violation of the Constitution, we have the right to self-determination for our fate. It is you who shout out that the Kurdish-Shiite alliance is over. There is no point in maintaining a failed experience. My call to the Iraqi Government; let’s start dialog instead of sanction and punishment. The dialog is better for both sides. Political disputes among governments should not lead to tension among the people.”
“We proved that we are not a threat to anyone”
“My request from neighboring countries is to help with the solution,” said Barzani and added, “We appreciate the attitude of Iran and Turkiye during the chemical attack and during the time of immigration. For the last 25 years, we have proved that we are not a threat to anyone. We have chosen the peace option for everyone.”
Finally, Barzani said: “As Kurdish people today, we need more unity than ever. We must be united, leaving all disputes aside. We must get out of the political party sheaf and go under the roof of the country. The people of Kurdistan went into a new turn with September 25th,” said Barzani as his concluded his statements.
