'Mosques should be seen as a spiritual hospital'
“Mosques should be seen as spiritual hospitals,” said Ittihadul Ulama [Union of Scholars] Deputy Chairman on the occasion of “Mosques and Religious Staff Week”.
Mullah Beşir Şimşek, Deputy Chairman of the Ittihadul Ulama [Union of Islamic Scholars], made an explanation of the “Mosques and Religious Staff Week", stated that the mosques should be seen as spiritual hospitals and the imams should see themselves on the spot of the doctors.
Şimşek emphasized that the “Mosques and Religious Staff Week” should not only consist of cleaning mosques, “As Union of Scholars, we want to remind the ‘Mosques and Religious Staff Week’ is not just the cleaning of the mosques. Mosque, minbar, mihrab, lectern, all these were the servants of Prophet Muhammad [PBUH].”
Şimşek pointed out that mosques have a great role in learning Islam for people, “Of course, today, mosques undoubtedly are the most important places in the improvement of our society, also for the Islamic and spiritual level of our children and youth people. Therefore, we recommend that imam friends see the mosques as a spiritual hospital in their own neighborhood, and see themselves as spiritually doctor. We see all kinds of sin and wrong habits as spiritual diseases. We encourage our people1 to use the mosques in this spiritual hospital to treat such diseases.” (M. Fatih Akgül - ILKHA)
