Journalist criticizes Selahaddin Demirtaş was sentenced
Journalist-author Adem Özköse was given 2 months and 15 days imprisonment due to criticized HDP Co-Chairman Selahaddin Demirtaş on the grounds that he caused October 6-8 attacks.
PKK/HDP supporters took the streets on the call of HDP Headquarters and its Co-Chairman Selahaddin Demirtaş on October 6-8, 2014, and murdered 16-years-old Yasin Börü and his friends who were distributing sacrificial meat to needy families.
Like many other people, Journalist-author Adem Özköse also criticized Selahaddin Demirtaş over these attacks, “The state must ask necessary account from 32 of our citizens’ killer Selahaddin Demirtaş” said in his social media account on October 10, 2014.
In Ankara 30th Criminal Court in the case where Demirtaş was “the complainant”, the prosecutor adjudged that “killer” expression is a crime that used by HUDA PAR Advisory Board Member Süleyman Atmaca, journalist-author Adem Özköse, Anatolia Agency correspondent Ibrahim Toprak and Nevvab Temel.
The court reduced the sentence of 3 months imprisonment to 2 months and 15 days and then decided to release the ruling for 5 years. The defendants will be sentenced to 2 months and 15 days imprisonment if they commit any crime during this period because they said “killer” to Demirtaş.
“Selahaddin Demirtaş called people to take in streets on October 6-7 and caused 40 citizens to be killed. ‘Killer of our citizens Selahaddin Demirtaş, the provocateur should be judged’ I tweeted on my twitter account. These tweets are within the scope of freedom of expression,” said Özköse while the hearing was continuing.
“As a Muslim, I will continue to say killer to a killer”
“If it is crime to say ‘killer’ to a killer in this country, the public should know as a Muslim I'm going to continue to say killer to the killer. There is Allah then no problem. And I do not regret to say what they are for those who involved in the murdered martyr Yasin Börü and his friends. Long live the divine justice!” said Özköse on his social media account after the decision. (ILKHA)
