Father of kidnapped boy by PKK burnt himself
Father from Rojava set himself on fire outside PYD’s office in Suleymaniye because his 15-year-old son was kidnapped by PYD and handed over to PKK.
Welid Abdurrahman aged 43 from Rojava set himself on fire outside the PYD building in Suleymaniye located in the district of Kurdistan. Abdurrahman’s 15-year-old son was kidnapped by PYD and handed over to PKK.
According to Rudaw news, Welid Abdurrahman a Syrian Kurd firstly did a sit down strike outside the PYD office in Suleymaniye so the PKK members can bring back his kidnapped son. The father begun the strike in the afternoon and as he had no outcome he set himself on fire in the evening around 18.45.
Welid Abdurrahman is under treatment in the hospital he was taken to as part of his body is burnt.
Welid spoke to Rudaw news reporter in the hospital stating that he went to the PYD building for his son to be sent back as he was seen near Ranya in the night before around 9pm. Father Abdurrahman claimed that his son is only 15 years old and has a medical condition. He also remarked that if they don’t hear from his son in the next few days then his wife would also set herself on fire.
Welid’s son Azad also spoke to Rudaw news confirming that his 15-year-old brother Birin was kidnapped 3 days ago by PYD to join PKK. Azad stated that his father wants his brother to come back and tried to do this through PYD; however PYD claimed that Birin is held in Kandil and there is nothing they can do about the situation.
“My father said ‘if you don’t bring my son back I will set myself on fire’ to PYD but PYD’s member in Suleymaniye Garib Heso said ‘burn yourself’ in response to my father and so my father set himself on fire.” said Azad. (ILKHA)
