Kirkuk will be voted to join Kurdistan
It was announced that the Iraqi Kirkuk city would be voted to participate in the Kurdistan Region.
The provincial council decided to vote Kirkuk, known as the “Conflicting Zones” according to the Iraqi Constitution, to join to the Kurdistan Regional Government.
According to the last report in Rudaw, Kirkuk Provincial Parliament Member Ibrahim Khalil said that the city would go to vote to join under the Kurdistan Region administration.
22 signatures have been collected from the Provincial Assembly for Kirkuk to join Kurdistan Region, which has 41 members. It was stated that the Arabs were trying to be persuaded to secure the majority.
The Provincial Assembly decided in 2008 to link Kirkuk to the Kurdistan Regional Government for the most part. The decision had been canceled on the grounds that it was incompatible with the Iraqi Constitution.
Ibrahim Khalil, who stated that they will present their decision to the Kurdistan Regional Government, said, “This request is a legitimate request. We promised our voters that Kirkuk will be connected to the Kurdistan Region. The Government of the Kurdistan Region should also prepare a project for the same purpose.” (ILKHA)
